Caitlyn Dempsey ’22 has been investigating stromatolite colonies in the Allentown Formation of Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey. Her research will investigate the cyclicity of the layering in the organisms. Caitlyn has made numerous thin sections of samples that she and Professor Sunderlin have brought back to campus. One sample was a bit too large to pick up and take home, so Caitlyn decided to take samples with a core drill.
These samples will be a part of her thesis work for the spring semester.
